AVSI Foundation Somalia is a non-governmental organization registered at federal and state (Jubaland) level. AVSI provides service in development and humanitarian assistance and brings strong management and innovative strategies to programs promoting and improving dignified living conditions under various thematic areas, including Food security, Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH), Livelihood, Education in development and in emergency, Gender-based violence and Child protection.

Overall objective of this position: the Food Security Expert will be in charge of the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the food security activities of AVSI’s emergency project in Kismayo (AID 12466), under the supervision of the Project Coordinator. He/she will coordinate with the Project Coordinator, Operations Officer and PM.

Main tasks:

• Participate in the beneficiary selection and other surveys based on indications from the Project Coordinator and Manager
• Update online planning documents related to food security activities
• Coordinate the logistical preparation of food security activities with the Project Coordinator and Operations Officer
• Assist with the application of AVSI’s Accountability to Affected Population framework
• Lead the implementation of food security activities and supervise Food Security local facilitators
• Develop solid, equal, trust-based relations with local communities and leaderships
• Ensure the correct filling of monitoring documentation and report on activity implementation to the Coordinator, PM and Nairobi staff during bi-weekly M&E meetings
• Verify that the correct AVSI procedures are in place and that they are carried out in accordance with donor regulations
• Participate in NGO coordination meetings in Kismayo, such as the Jubaland Food Security meeting
• Assist and monitor the fulfillment of contractual obligations for national staff in accordance with current legislation
• Carry out any other tasks indicated by the Project Coordinator and Manager
