About the Job
The Radio Operator manages the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment in the specified Radio room. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.
This is a resident/national position based in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment such as telephone VHF/HF radios
· Facilitates radio and telecommunication contacts and makes field follow-ups on all field trips according to internal guidelines
· Proactively supports information flow on security-related issues
· In charge of all the IT equipment found in the radio room
· Operates the telephone switchboard when need arises
· Follows up on all the dispatched mails/parcels until delivery at the planned destination
· Monitors all the field trips in Mogadishu as per the field trip guidelines
· Ensures that the field trip forms are completed, approved and dispatched to concerned structures
· Communicates and keeps tab on all upcoming field trips
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
· Secondary School certificate and vocational training in electronics, telecommunication or related field of study
· 2 years of experience as a radio operator in a busy environment
· Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned environment
· Proactive with good planning assessment, organizational, coordination and communication skills
· Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali languages
· Ability to work under pressure
· Pays attention to details
· Proficiency in MS Office Suite
