Overview of position:

  • Our client has been added to KFW funded phase III of multiyear multistakeholder grant joint action for resilience building in Somalia along two other UN bodies UNICEF & WFP where our client implements food security & livelihood components under outcome 3 households maintain & improve food security & livelihood status through improved & diversified agricultural production & income generation. This position is therefore required to manage KFW joint resilience project in Gedo region, Somalia. This is a 17$ mil USD resilience project that requires technical team on the ground for quality control & implementation.

Role objectives: To ensure the project is implemented in a timely & professional manner, according to objectives, goals & indicators, in line with donor requirement & based on beneficiary needs. The post holder, Agronomist will be tasked with providing useful & practical agricultural skills related to good agricultural practices, crop husbandry, post harvesting management, storage management, irrigation management, agro forestry, trees & environment conservation, treatment of pests & diseases of agricultural crops, fodder management, establish demonstration farm & link to the farmers & IDPs people. Other key tasks he/she will undertake include:

  • In charge of records of current assets of the farmers, income & seasonal yield harvests.
  • Responsible to disseminate market data to farmers regularly & training farmers a market system & link them to the market.
  • Regular monitoring & supervision of agricultural activities & generating reports.
  • Linking farmers with saving groups & farmers cooperatives with innovation & train them & link them on savings groups & financial institutions.
  • Participate in field level food security cluster & other required coordination forums.
  • Preparing & submission of reports on agricultural activities on semi annual, quarterly, monthly & weekly to show progress, challenges & trends.
  • Provide technical support in the assigned districts within Gedo region in collaboration with other livelihood teams.
  • The incumbent will be answerable to Resilience Field Project Manager.

Expected output:

  • Activities work plan developed monthly & progress reported submitted within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Quarterly output & activity targets achieved & reported.
  • Agriculture activities delivered on target & to technical standards quarterly.
  • Activities design, reports & records up to date.
  • Food security cluster coordination meetings attended.
  • Monthly project meetings with WFP & UNICEF attended.
  • Regular meetings with govt. & joint field supervision attended.

Project reporting:

  • This role reports to the Resilience Field Project Manager.

Key competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Production & Rural Development related field from recognized University / Institution.
  • Minimum of 7 years of demonstrable relevant agriculture field experience.
  • Must have worked in hardship areas, preferably Gedo region.
  • Designing software’s.
  • Experience in surveying long irrigation canals.
  • Experience in water infrastructures with evidences.
  • Experience in flood protection with evidences.
  • Experiences in market Infrastructures.
  • Sound knowledge food security, livelihoods, particularly agriculture.
  • Excellent coordination and collaboration skills with other actors (UN, NGOs & govt.).
  • Must be fluent in English & Somali.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
