Title: Child Rights Governance Technical Specialist – Somalia/Somaliland Country Office -open to nationals

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Thematic Head, Child Protection and Child Rights Governance, Child Rights Governance Specialist actively engages in the development of multi-year thematic strategies and annual plans; developing methodologies and tools for effective mainstreaming and/or implementation of CRG initiatives across programs; involve in proposal development, work with operation team to ensure quality at delivery level; provide technical support to partners; and organizing and documenting information, experiences and lessons on CRG. The CRG Specialist also works to integrate CRG strategies in Save the Children’s Thematic Sectors and Partners (CSO, government, academia, and human rights Institutions) by providing technical support, and developing tools and methodologies.

Country Dimensions:

Save the Children operates across all zones in Somalia and currently has three main area offices and additional 11 field offices. Programmatically Somalia is a large Country Office with more than $110million annual budget and staff over 650 staff.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BSC degree with extensive experience in Child Rights Governance work.
  • At least 10 years’ solid experience in planning and coordinating child rights work at National level.
  • Strong experience in working with diverse partners (government, Civil Society, Academia, National Human Rights Institutions) in the implementing child rights in general and CRG work in particular.
  • Depth knowledge on child rights (UNCRC and ACRWC), social accountability and Investment in Children programming.
  • Experience in development of child related policies, strategies and plan of actions,
  • Experience in Child Rights Governance and Child Rights Programming, and commitment to Save the Children values.
  • An understanding on the Concluding Observations of UNCRC and ACRWC Committees of Expertise on State Party Reports, particularly on the situation of Somalia.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation.
  • Previous work experience in government Ministries (National Level) and NGO environments is an added benefit.
  • Good Computer skills (Particularly Excel, Word and database).
