Overview of position

The role of this position includes the provision of basic education, civic education, religious counselling, trainers. The client organization is seeking for a skilled Education Team Lead Teacher to work as lead teachers with the Education Coordinator; providing full-time instruction to beneficiaries in Kismayo center. This position is jointly managed by the government administration and the client organization with dual reporting requirements.

This contract receives day-to-day and week-to-week oversight from the administrative manager with support from technical staff (Education Coordinator) and other staff. Overall contract performance management is jointly monitored and evaluated by the client organization and the government partner.

Role objectives

The Education Team Lead will work full time as per Somali Labour Laws, performing the below duties and responsibilities:-

· The Education Team Lead Teacher instructs students and reporting for all teachers in the centers. To achieve professional success, the education team leads teachers; must possess strong knowledge of subjects on Basic Education, grading templets, and report writing. They should also understand fundamental aspects of teaching, including curricula design and classroom instruction. They must also have strong leadership skills, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Support in leading the overall coordination of all the education/training program under the DDR program Kismayo center.

· Support the Education Coordinator with training materials, Monitoring, and evaluation tools for efficient and effective delivery of the teaching skills.

· Supervisor the teachers in the Center (Religious, Basic Education, and Civic Teachers).

· Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and in the DDR Centre.

· Provide a stimulating learning environment and provide additional assistance to teachers with abilities prepare lesson plans.

· Provide access to information resources through efficient and well-guided systems for organizing, retrieving, and circulating resources.

· Support teachers to make use of audio-visual technological devices/aides and other adaptations during the delivery of the lessons from the teachers.

· Assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development, and attainment of teachers with Education Coordinator.

· Assist the Education Coordinator in the implementation of the Somali national curriculum and oversee in the classroom implementation of it.

· Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress, and achievements of teachers.

· Continue professional development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods.

· Contribute to raising standards of achievement and maximizing teachers’ attainment.

· Teaching beneficiaries all Basic Education classes.

· Support in the review and evaluating process of teacher’s teaching and learning strategies, methodologies, and program in line with the curriculum framework and guidelines.

· Take part, as may be required, in the review, development and management of educational activities relating to the curriculum and overall functions of the education program, particularly teachers.

· Carry out any additional responsibilities appropriate to the position with the Education Coordinator.

Further information

• A Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent or higher with 2 years’ experience or

• A High School Degree/Certificate with 4 years’ experience

• Experience working in the Jubaland of Somalia’s regions is highly preferred.

• Experience in teaching and served in a leadership position.

• Proficient on Computer Skills (Excel, word process, PowerPoint etc)

• Previous experience working with youth at risk and or the return and reintegration at risk groups a considerable advantage.

• Experience in different pedagogy.

• Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills, with keen attention to interpersonal skills and effective communication.

• Practical understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.

• Theoretical understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.

• Relevant curriculum knowledge.

• Demonstrates flexibility in a range of effective teaching techniques.

• Engaging in self review and evaluation processes.
