Overview Of Position

  • Our client is one of the major humanitarian and development actors in Somalia. Our Client Shelter/NFI program currently implements projects focused at in-kind distributions as well as Cash Based Interventions. The program also maintains the common supply pipeline for cluster partners.
  • Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator (EPC) and direct supervision of Programme Officer (S/NFI), the Field Operations Assistant will be responsible in supporting the timely provision of shelter and NFIs to conflict and disaster affected communities through in-kind and cash-based interventions. S/He will support the Shelter/NFI Senior operations Assistance in the related field interventions and delivering Our Client SNFI responses on the ground.

Role Objectives

  • Participate in the assessments, drafting definition of technical documents and preparation of contracts for constructions undertaken by the shelter-NFI Unit
  • Prepare requests of materials and verify that materials delivered by suppliers adhere to technical specifications and relevant quality standards
  • Support with the monitoring of the shelter Unit’s constructions in Somalia
  • Effectively work together with other cluster partners in executing emergency response activities
  • Liaise with community leadership, intended project beneficiaries and relevant local government actors to promote appropriate involvement of the affected population in all the Shelter/NFI Unit’s programmatic activities.
  • Conduct assessments of local markets including the compilation, analysis and presentation of basic data on, for example, prices, stocks, labour rates, supply-chains and financial literacy.
  • Support the conceptualization, organization and implementation of culture- and context-appropriate shelter/NFI interventions
  • Organize and deliver skills-trainings/capacity building activities for the benefit of affected populations
  • Support the Shelter/NFI units’ cash-based interventions through the monitoring of all related activities in the field. Including, but not limited to: beneficiary registration, verification of outputs, vendor and community engagement, processing of data and addressing beneficiary complaints/feedback;
  • Support in the preparation of timely reports following implementation of activities using cluster standard format and other relevant tools and templates
  • Provide information, that is texts, interviews and pictures that enhance visibility of activities implemented by Our client in the field; and
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Further Information

  • Knowledge of Somalia, particularly Banadir, Jubaland, and Southwest State, including socioeconomic and political context required
  • Knowledge of UN programming
  • Knowledge of Our Client resource management rules and procedures
  • Experience in emergency response (natural or human made disaster)
  • Experience in emergency response programming for marginalized populations, including need assessment, data collection, monitoring, and review
  • Experience in NFI programme, particularly on NFI distribution and beneficiary training is an advantage
