Position Title :Finance Clerk

Classification :General Service Category, Grade G3

Type of Appointment : One Year Fixed Term, with possibility of extension

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Resources Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Finance Officer in Mogadishu, Somalia the Finance Clerk will be responsible for providing finance support services to the mission’s activities. In particular the Finance Clerk will perform the following duties:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in maintaining a filing system and proper custody and tracking of the finance documents.
  2. Perform Data Entry in PRISM, as assigned, ensure that costs have been correctly captured and allocated among the project budget lines.
  3. Assist in maintaining the Travel system, verification of the calculation of the Travel Expense Claims (TECs) and the supporting document, ensure the travel claims by staff are paid on time and follow up on settlement status when necessary.
  4. Review and ensure all supporting documentation and signatures are obtained before finalizing vouchers; verify invoices and ascertain that the equipment, supplies or services they refer to were duly received or provided before proceeding with payment request.
  5. Assist in the logistics for trainings, workshops, and meetings in coordination with the relevant units, review the relevant requests and verify the sufficiency of the supporting documentation.
  6. Provide general Admin support to Resources Management Unit (RMU) Team
  7. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or a related field from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant professional experience or

• A High School Degree/Certificate in the above fields with at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Familiar with excel spreadsheets, word processing and other computer tools.

• Possess strong organizational and communication skills; detail oriented, committed, efficient and flexible.

• Knowledge in financial and cash handling task.

Skills

• Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Packages (Office, excel, Power point, outlook) internet and E-mail

• Personal commitment, efficiency and results driven.

• Sound administration and organizational skills with strict attention to detail.

• Ability to work in a highly confidential manner

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team.

• Flexible and able to adapt quickly to new, different environments

• Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Packages (Office, excel, Power point, outlook) internet and E-mail

• Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a diverse team.

• Mature individual, able to work independently under pressure, able to maintain accuracy, paying attention to details, meeting deadlines and working with minimal supervision.

• CPA/ ACCA qualifications is an added advantage

Languages

Fluency in English and Somali (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
