About the Job

The Flying ECOSEC Nutritionist contributes to the overall implementation and management of the TSFP (Targeted Supplementary Feed Programme) programme across Somalia. S/he contributes to the supervision of the activities implemented by the Nutrition Field Officers. In close collaboration with Nutrition delegate and EcoSec Coordinator develops the TSFP program strategy and ensures implementation of the strategy in all delegations.

This is a national/resident position based in Mogadishu with frequent travel within Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the TSFP program, making regular monitoring visits and generating related reports, evaluating their impact and making recommendations

· Proposes evidence-based nutrition strategies in line with National guidelines, International standards, institutional guidelines, and Delegation priorities**

· Assesses, identifies and prioritizes the nutrition needs in close coordination with other Nutrition Field Officers and the Nutrition Delegate

· Contributes to food chain monitoring and management in places of Detention across Somalia

· Conducts Body Mass Index (BMI) and food chain surveys in places of Detention

· Ensures adequate implementation of SMART nutrition surveys in the field

· Ensures ICRC protocols and guidelines are implemented and adhered to in all ICRC supported Nutritional Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) clinics

· Plans and ensures the implementation of a training program in an identified area, according to Somali IMAM guidelines

· Ensures that Somali IMAM (Integrated Management Acute Malnutrition) guidelines are implemented in all SRSC SFP clinics supported by ICRC

· Collaborates with SRCS nutrition management and supports them in terms of logistics and administrative issues in all TSFP programmes

· Monitors and analyses the nutritional products used for the treatment of children aged less than 5 years and Pregnant Lactating Women, according to Somali IMAM guidelines

· Contributes to the annual planning process (Planning for Results) for the TSFP Project

· Routinely monitors all food and nutrition products stores in the field to ensure optimal conditions for quality preservation

· Responsible for the regular monitoring of the food chain including analysis of the penitentiary ration to ensure it abides by the caloric and nutritional standards and to avoid any shortages in the food chain

· Identifies and promptly highlights shortcomings or breakage in the food chain and recommends appropriate corrective measures

· Highlights any limitations in food chain to the Nutrition Delegate to ensure they are addressed by authorities and followed up by the relevant officials in places of Detention

· Utilizes the existing procedures/tools and amends them to suit the needs for an adequate food chain management in places of detention, these includes food stock registers, food item cards, guidance for store cleaning, food preparation and handling and serving standards

· Contributes to designing of the food chain assessment, analyzing the results, formulating relevant recommendations and drafting the assessment report

· Ensures capacity building for all the TSFP staff

· Manages and continuously monitors performance for staff working under his/her responsibility

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

· University Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing or equivalent qualification in a related field of study**

· At least 6 years work experience in a similar field of activity**

· Ability to design and implement SMART Nutrition Survey**

· Proven assessment, analysis and reporting writing skills

· Good knowledge of the political, social, economic and cultural environment of the region

· Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

· Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali language

· Computer proficiency especially in MS Office suite
