JOB TITLE: Hygiene Promoters (1) position ( Open to Somali National only)

DEPARTMENT: Operation

BASE LOCATION: Baidoa

CONTRACT LENGTH: ) 12 Months with possibility of extension based on Performance and availability of funds

REPORT TO: Wash Officer

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: None

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of WASH Officer, the Hygiene Promoter will participate in hygiene campaigns, door to door hygiene promotion. S/he prepares written material and clear and adapted messages for the beneficiaries. S/he distributes hygiene items and is able to prepare hygiene promotion plans. The Hygiene Promoters may support other WaSH activities as well**

Key Duties and Responsibilities

o Organize implementation of WASH; Water, Hygiene & Sanitation campaigns in project target populations.

o Responsible to train communities on good hygiene and sanitation practices (hold hygiene promotion sessions).

o Supervise program beneficiaries working both in Baidoa district.

o Plan activities according to the expected progress of the project based on program work plan (quarterly plan/objectives; monthly plan and weekly movement planning).

o Apply the project’s follow-up and supervision tools; monitor and evaluate impact of IRS support on beneficiaries.

o Ensure quality programming through capacity building.

o Participate in weekly base meetings and reporting achievements/constrains (every Sunday).

o Undertake hygiene promotion campaign and other behavior change communication within the IDPs and the poor host communities.

o Able to understand solid and liquid waste managements within the IDP camps

o Participate and support the communities, IDPs and the beneficiaries undertaking hygiene campaign in the project area

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS

Strong communication skills, used to speak in front of an audience and able to work dynamically with children and adults

QUALIFICATIONS

Ø Bachelor in Public Health, Social sciences, Education or related fields

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Ø Experience in hygiene promotion minimum(2years)

Ø Work experience with local communities, children and vulnerable people

Ø Experience in community mobilization and participation

Additional job responsibilities

Ø Identify and inform the WASH officer of any problems or constraints

Ø Participate in weekly report writing

Ø Provide support to the all program staff in the implementation of program activities.

Ø Submit reports on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to the WASH officer

Ø Organize for implementation of Hygiene & Sanitation campaigns

Ø Support program staff in collecting data and reports per project needs.

Ø Promote systematically IRW mandate and humanitarian principles to others stakeholders/partner agencies at all times.
