We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nutrition Program Coordinator

Location: Burao, Togdheer Region

Position Summary

The Nutrition Program Coordinator is to provide leadership and overall management of ANPPCAN Somaliland nutrition activities in the Togdheer region, with the guidance of the Nutrition Program Manager. She/He participates in key decision-making for the nutrition program in Burao, Oodwayne, Buuhoodle, and Ainabo as a member of the ANPPCAN nutrition team. Together with Nutrition Program Manager and program staff, the post holder participates in defining intervention priorities and developing necessary contacts and relationships with government, non-government, donors, and UN agencies at the field level. The Nutrition Program Coordinator will be expected to ensure timely, quality, accountable and protection-sensitive delivery of the nutrition intervention in the Togdheer region in line with the national and international guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

  • Overall management of the day-to-day nutrition and nutrition-integrated program activities at Burao, Ainabo, Odweine, and Buuhoodle Districts of Somaliland;
  • Coordinate the various program components by ensuring a strong link between Community Activities, MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP, and ECD services to be implemented in 25 health centers, 2 hospitals,s and 75 community nutrition sites;
  • Supervise and support the community nutrition workers to implement quality community mobilization for the successful outcome of the MIYCN, MNP, ECD, and Mother-Led-MUAC interventions.
  • Update the Nutrition Program Manager on the implementation of the MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP, ECD, and Mother MUAC approach on weekly basis;
  • Conduct joint supportive supervision and capacity assessment of MIYCN, OTP, SC, MNP, and ECD services with MoHD and incorporate the finding into the monthly progress report;
  • Follow up on management of nutrition stocks; monitor rates of consumption and ensure supplies are ordered in a timely manner;
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the nutrition workers, including admission, discharge, and transfer to and from the various components of the program in line with the IYCF, IMAM and MNP Protocols;
  • Lead regular nutrition staff meetings
  • Prepare progress reports and statistical reports on a weekly and monthly basis and submit them to the Nutrition Program Manager.
  • Ensure all ANPPCAN Somaliland-supported health facilities are equipped with all necessary tools, supplies, drugs, and visibility materials (e.g., monitoring charts, recording and reporting tools, ECD kits, MUAC tapes, weighing scales, drugs, RUTF, counseling cards, referral guides, etc);
  • Ensure that catchment areas of each and every health-facilities and community nutrition site are properly demarcated and their population listed and properly documented, maintained, and filed for reference;
  • Participate in the writing of donor proposals for nutrition interventions as necessary;
  • On delegation, act in the role of Nutrition Program Manager in her absence; and
  • Assist in any other tasks when required.

Coordination:

  • Pro-actively communicate and coordinate with other ANPPCAN Somaliland teams (program and support functions) to ensure safe, timely, effective, and accountable achievement of objectives and targets;
  • Represent ANPPCAN Somaliland in meetings relevant to ANPPCAN Somaliland’s Nutrition work in the Togdheer region, including meetings with partners, donors, government officials, and cluster/sector coordination meetings;
  • Ensure ANPPCAN Somaliland’s programming approach is known and correctly understood by all stakeholders at the field level; and
  • Proactively liaise and build a good rapport with INGO, UN, local authority officials, community representatives, and any other relevant stakeholders in the field contributing to shaping the overall nutrition status of the Togdheer population.

Administration, Human Resources, Logistics, and Supply:

  • Plan program supply requirements and regularly distribute to all target health facilities on time;
  • Routinely monitor staff performance according to their job description and set objectives;
  • Create the conditions to ensure effective teamwork and morale is strictly observed;
  • Ensure all service providers clearly understand and carry out their duties in accordance with personal work plans, humanitarian principles, core values, the Code of Conduct, and SPHERE Standards;
  • Contribute to communications, program visibility, and promotion work as required;
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback to nutrition program staff regarding their performance; and
  • Manage the nutrition stocks; monitor rates of consumption and ensure supplies are ordered in a timely manner;

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning, and Reporting:

  • Integrate MEAL approaches and activities into program plans and operations, outlining how MEAL will be implemented at each stage of the program cycle;
  • Support the MEAL Focal Point in establishing the MEAL system, data collection tools, and a formal mechanism to capture, monitor, respond to and act on feedback and complaints from communities.
  • Based on findings, lessons, feedback, and assessment data generated from the MEAL system, identify and utilize the best approaches to provide communities with relevant and actionable life-saving and life-enhancing activities and information.
  • Ensure success stories are regularly documented to showcase program improvement over time and demonstrate the value of the program activities.

Compliance, Ethics and PSEA and GEI:

  • Actively promotes PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within ANPPCAN Somaliland and amongst beneficiaries served by ANPPCAN Somaliland;
  • Ensures all staff and volunteers receive basic PSEA and complaint handling skills training;
  • Complies with ANPPCAN Somaliland policies and practice with respect to child and adult safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures;
  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout ANPPCAN Somaliland;
  • As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of ANPPCAN Somaliland’s and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards;
  • Promotes a productive work environment respectful of the Code of Conduct with zero tolerance for verbal and physical abuse or discrimination against other persons on the grounds of race, color, sex or creed; and
  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and ANPCAN Somaliland’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff in the unit are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding ANPPCAN Somaliland’s safeguarding and Code of Conduct policies;
  • Ensures that ANPPCAN Somaliland’s Adult and Child Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct are fully embedded in day-to-day work; and
  • Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Qualification and Experience

  • Master’s University Degree with a minimum of 4 years experience in Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, or any related field;
  • MBBS/Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of direct nutrition program work experience and implementation of nutrition intervention programs;
  • Understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems;
  • Proven ability and experience in planning and conducting a formal training session on nutrition including IMAM and IYCF;
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train, and coach local staff and community nutrition workers;
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive, and empathize with children and their caretakers;
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
  • Strong report writing and computer skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali
  • Commitment to and understanding of ANPPCAN Somaliland’s aims, values, and principles
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
