The Organization: CEFA (The European Committee for Agricultural Training) is an Italian Non-Governmental Organization established in 1972 and active in 10 Countries in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. CEFA’s medium- and long-term interventions in the agricultural, environmental, and human rights sectors are focused on the sustainable development of the communities, achieved by involving local counterparts and promoting the beneficiaries’ active participation.

Duty Stations: 60% Bosaso and 40% Garowe, Puntland, Somalia

Objectives of the position: Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture is a food-based approach created by FAO that puts nutritionally rich foods, dietary diversity, and food fortification at the center of an integrated strategy to overcome malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. The purpose is to make nutritious food more available, accessible, and affordable, increasing diversity in food production and making the food itself more nutritious. We thus require 2 Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Field Officers to deliver training sessions on bag farming, horticultural production, food handling, cooking, and hygiene practices, and to provide technical support to the beneficiaries on horticultural production.

The Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Field Officer will be responsible for supporting the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Team Leader in the implementation of the nutrition-sensitive activities envisioned by the project, such as: training facilitation on Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture to project beneficiaries, introduction/promotion of nutrition-sensitive crops and products, sensitization, and awareness creation to prevent malnutrition, support to women, youth and the most vulnerable beneficiaries targeted by the project.

Detailed Responsibilities:

• Implement the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture activities under the supervision of the NSA Team Leader.
• Beneficiaries mobilization and awareness creation in nutrition-sensitive aspects to prevent malnutrition;
• Support and facilitate training activities on Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture;
• Support the preparation of learning materials;
• Counseling and sensitization activities on malnutrition prevention;
• Ensure the compilation of attendance lists and project documentation when required;
• Support monitoring activities by providing the NSA Team Leader and the Field Coordinator with data and updated information from the field;
• Implement the distribution of the agricultural inputs, with a specific focus on the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture kits, under the supervision of the NSA Team Leader;
• Continuous follow-up with project beneficiaries on training and nutrition-sensitive activities;
• Field visits and provision of nutritional and technical support to project beneficiaries;
• Any other activities that might be required.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree in Agriculture and/or Nutrition and/or related fields;
• Minimum 3 years’ working experience as agriculture and/or nutrition field officer in the development/humanitarian sector in Somalia;
• Previous experience working in Bari and Nugal regions, Puntland State of Somalia;
• Excellent Knowledge of English and Somali languages;
• Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
• Previous experience with bag farming activities;
• Experience in crop diversification, bag farming activities, and nutrition-sensitive training delivery
• Previous experience in working with CEFA is an asset.
