About PAH in Somalia

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is present in Somalia since 2011 and implements projects in WASH, FSL and Nutrition. We operate through 1 head office and 2 field offices covering areas in Banadiir, Middle Shabelle, Lower Shabelle and Galmuudug.

PAH’s current activities in Somalia include:

  • Provision of safe and sufficient water to the communities in emergency (achieved by rehabilitating crucial water points and increasing capacity of water points) – including Water for Schools component;
  • Construction of gender-sensitive, emergency latrines in the most populated IDP settlements;
  • Increasing awareness of hygiene practices among communities, including intensive gender-sensitive hygiene campaigns;
  • Direct cash transfers to most vulnerable households in the IDPs settlements;
  • Distribution of Shelter materials and WASH NFIs to IDP households affected by evictions, displacement or natural disasters.

Since the establishment of PAH’s mission in Somalia, we have worked with a variety of partners through a diverse funding portfolio. Partnering with local NGOs, iNGOs, UN agencies, institutional donors, local leaders and regional administrations, PAH has been continuing to provide efficient humanitarian aid. Our projects are funded by ECHO, UNICEF, SHF, Achenova and other donors.

Main responsibilities:

  • Cooperate with partner organisations in the coordination of activities, sharing information and good practices;
  • Support partner organisations in developing proposals for project activities, project logical matrix, budget and other project documents;
  • Support in developing reports and financial and narrative accounts;
  • Support in implementing procedures and creating appropriate administrative, financial and logistical documentation of the project;
  • Maintain regular contacts with partner organisations, establish contacts with new ones, create and deepen partnerships with NGOs;
  • Prepare new partnership agreements, in accordance with the PAH project approval process;
  • Supervise mutual compliance with the terms of agreements, including regular project settlements and verification of settlements, implementation of project activities in accordance with the project logical matrix and schedule, sending transfers in accordance with the previously adopted schedule;
  • Support the assessments of new partners before entering into new partnerships, support the preparation and implementation of new procedures and necessary standards;
  • Liaise with external stakeholders on substantive issues;
  • Preparation of accounting and financial records;
  • Information flow management;
  • Financial clearing and closing of partnership/consortium projects;
  • Close cooperation with teams at headquarters;
  • Conducting promotional activities for projects;
  • Coordinate project modification requests (if required) in collaboration with, Head of Programs and Head of Mission.

The successful candidate will be selected based on the qualification requirements described below:

  • Over 5 years of experience in NGO sector;
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a similar role in humanitarian context; Preferably working with ECHO or Other EU projects;
  • Strong communication, networking and coordination training skills;
  • Bachelor’s degree supported with sufficient work experience (preferred humanitarian or development fields of study);
  • Full proficiency (C2) in spoken and written English required;
  • Trainings in the humanitarian field will be an asset, especially related to humanitarian programming and systems such as APPEL.
