
ANPPCAN-SOM- African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect – Somali Chapter is a legally registered body in Somaliland and Somalia. ANPPCAN-SOM is a non-government, not-for-profit and non-partisan organization concerned with status of children and women in general and those in need of protection in particular to enhance and uphold the rights of the children and women and protect them from all forms of maltreatment.
ANPPCAN-SOM is affiliated with ANPPCAN, a Pan-African child rights organization with headquarter in Nairobi, Kenya.
ANPPCANSOM is seeking for Pre-qualified Enumerator (20 Enumerators) for the MEAL and Research activities in Somaliland and Somalia. The Pre-qualified Enumerators will participate in all activities to be carried out by ANPPCAN-SOM and all partnership with stakeholders. The Pre-qualified Enumerator shall carry out data collection activities during implementation and surveys as follow; Baseline survey, KAP survey, End line survey and Research studies. The Pre-qualified Enumerator shall also perform data entry activities and any other duties assigned by the MEAL Specialist or Team Leader.
A. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The enumerators shall under take the following duties and responsibilities under the guidance of the MEAL Specialist or Team Leader;
- Collect data by using structured interviews with the sampled respondents using pre-developed questionnaires.
- Ensure completeness of forms for accuracy and consistency after the data collection.
- Ensure data quality and sampling protocols by accurately and strictly following the guide/survey tools used for the specific data collection.
- Ensure to collect accurate and the quality data by reviewing and editing the collected data by checking of all intentional and unintentional errors daily.
- Maintain effective teamwork and excellent communication with both the team leader and all other data collectors during fieldwork.
- Maintain effective communication with key staff to provide an update on the progress and challenges in the field and seek guidance on the way forward.
- Participate in data quality check exercises soon after data collection and have a close look at missing and error reported data.
- Ensure the confidentiality of collected data and maintain data storage.
- Ensure effective field data collection in line with the methodology, tools and specific guidelines set as required.
- Upload all collected data through phone devices on to the assigned platform/server on time.
- Participate in conduction of Household surveys, Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs); translate them into English/Somali as required.
- Participate in date entry of beneficiary registrations through the assigned platform.
- Visit selected project target communities and conduct key informant interviews with selected individuals (government, village head, committees etc.)
- Ensure that the on-going daily reporting on data collection progress is kept up-to-date.
- Hand in assignments as instructed by the team leader and any other notes on observations made during the interviews.
- Support the MEAL Specialist or Team Leader to report on problems encountered in the field.
B. EDUCATION QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- At least a diploma or degree in the relevant fields of public health, nurse, social sciences, education, statistics, economics, and monitoring and evaluation
- Prior experience in conducting field research work using participatory approaches in different locations in Somalia, Somaliland and Puntland is essential.
- Prior experience in interviewing and facilitating FDGs (Focus Group Discussions) and in-depth interviews
- Displays exemplary positive behaviours for consistency, predictability and reliability at work to complete assignments and meet deadlines.
- Extensive knowledge of word processing and spread sheet software (Word, Excel).
- Experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection; Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews
- Experience with mobile data collection platforms like SurveyCTO, etc
- Strong communication skills and good working relationships with local authorities, stakeholders and beneficiaries
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and commitment to meet deadlines.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience of similar engagement with international NGOs, Local NGOs, COBs, Civil Societies or Research institutions.
C. REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Objectivity: Ability to collect and gather information in an objective way
- Listening: With the ability to actively listen and capture the exact response from respondents.
- Accuracy: Must have the ability to interpret and record responses appropriately without distorting the respondent’s meaning or confusing the reader.
- Communication: confidently and professionally expresses self, able to ask questions and help the respondent understand what is needed from her/him.
- Honesty: Show a high level of integrity and not fabricate responses or misrepresent the program.
- Relationship building: Should build trust with people in rural areas and ensure confidentiality.
- Cultural Awareness: Must be aware of and sensitive to the cultural expectations of communities in Somalia/Somaliland.
- Endurance: Must be able to work for full-day working hours in the field across a number of days.
- Team player: Have the ability to work with a diverse team
