The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs. DRC is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization which has been operating in Somalia since 1997. DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict and natural disaster. DRC programs include Protection, Food Security & Livelihoods, Shelter/NFI and Water & Sanitation. Since 2018 DRC, in collaboration with UNHCR and under the leadership of the Protection Cluster, is spearheading a country-wide Protection Monitoring System. DRC is one of the two networks responsible for data collection in Somalia.

Overall purpose of the role: We are looking for a highly motivated Protection case worker, focusing on Protection case worker, case management and general support to protection activities. The person will be responsible for the Protection case working System data collection in line with Protection Information Management principles and methodology, collecting information about protection risks and reporting about protection concerns

Responsibilities:

    •  The GBV Case Worker will be responsible to provide the day-to-day Management of all GBV cases and including the identification, documentation, developing case plans and follow up
    •  Submit intake forms to GBV/IMS to ensure proper database of cases and analysis of reported cases.
    •  Ensure the principle of safety and confidentiality of beneficiaries’ data upheld.
    •  Provide weekly case update to supervisor including new cases identified, number of referrals, cases closed and follow ups.
    •  GBV Case Worker will liaises directly with other service providers working within the GBV and communities where the project is implemented and facilitate referrals to other service providers (health including Mental health, Shelter, NFIs and /or legal providers, etc.)
    •  Ensures that Survivor Centred Approach Guiding principles maintained and enforced in while working with survivors including in safe spaces for women and girls.
    •  Facilitate the setting up of information desk where adolescent and women of reproductive age can access Sexual Reproductive Health information.
    •  Contribute within the women and girls centre to the identification of at-risk girls, boys and women and ensure proper documentation
    •  Support GBV at risk individuals or survivors by referring them when necessary and in respect of their consent to other service providers (Health, legal counselling, shelter, livelihoods or mental health etc)
  •  Provide direct support and care for vulnerable women and girls (including survivors of gender-based violence) including basic information counselling and case management: Assessment of survivor needs, developing an action plan, implementing the pan, follow up and case closure processes in line with the GBV case management standard operating procedure and IASC guidelines on case management (SOP).
  •  Provide direct age appropriate support and care to vulnerable adolescent and young women (including survivors of
  •  GBV) that includes counseling and case management for under 18 years survivors in line with case management: Best Interest Determination (BID), age appropriate engagement and decision making by survivor
  •  Ensure Do No Harm analysis is carried out and the principle of Do No Harm is observed and upheld in all the engagements of the Case Worker.
  •  Participate in data analysis process
  •  Share feedback from and to the key informants related to the PMS process, findings and actions taken
  •  Support other protection activities especially:
  •  Report about emergencies such as evictions, displacement, natural disaster and related protection needs
  •  Participate in protection and multi-sectoral rapid needs assessments
  •  Support coordination of emergency response through sharing information about needs and ongoing interventions
  •  Provide psychological first aid and referrals to survivors of protection incidents in line with the survivor-centered approach
  •  Refer cases with protection concerns to the case worker/community service worker, to ensure their protection needs are addressed.
  •  Conduct spot observation in areas where returnees and IDPs are living for inclusion in protection mainstreaming
  •  Conduct mobile patrols
  •  Participate in protection and multi-sector awareness sessions
  •  Provide training and capacity building on protection to persons of concern
  •  Collect and share information on evictions or risk thereof
  •  Support emergency distributions ensuring protection mainstreaming
  •  Compile weekly and monthly reports
  •  Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisors
  •  Support other sectors, esp. CCCM activities if requested

Experience, Education and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  •  At least one-year previous NGO or humanitarian work experience.
  •  Good data collection/analysis and reporting skills
  •  Experience using online data collection software
  •  Familiar with computers, Outlook, Excel and MS Word, mobile surveys
  •  Experience in Protection case working and reporting
  •  Honest, hardworking and independent. Good communication
  •  Diploma in Social sciences or related qualification in Social work, protection or human rights.

Languages:

  •  Fluency in written and spoken Somali & English

Availability: August 2022 Duty station: Galkayo Reporting to: Protection Team Leader

Duration: 6 Months with possibility of extension based on performance and funding

Contract: This position is graded as Band I2-Non-Management for qualified national staff and the terms of employment will be in accordance with DRC terms for national staff.
