DRC has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Somalia operations focuses mainly on people who are affected by displacement, including refugees, internally displaced, and migrant.

Overall Purpose of the role:

We are looking for a highly motivated Protection Assistant whose main responsibilities focus on providing general support to protection activities. The person will be responsible for DRC contributions to DRC protection programming in Somaliland in the framework of DRC Mix Migration Response.

The role will be responsible for the effective and professional performance of project activities.

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides technical support and guidance for protection operations.

Responsibilities:

    •  Support protection officers in the coordination and implementation of services/assistance to be provided, according to the specific protection needs and individual care plans generated for each case.
    •  Ensure active listening to beneficiaries in order to provide the most appropriate humanitarian assistance to address identified protection needs.
    •  Ensure respect for protection principles, including confidentiality and informed consent.
    •  Support management officers in the formal registration of cases.
    •  Handle confidential information correctly, managing protection files accurately, correctly and completely.
    •  Carry out service requests and direct procurement processes to respond to the specific protection needs of each case, as well as monitoring and tracking such actions until the actual delivery of the required service/assistance.
    •  Accompany and/or carry out the effective delivery of the services/assistance required and make the respective delivery report to the Protection Officer.
    •  – Carry out the due legalisation of the expenses incurred for the provision of services/assistance required by the PoC.
    •  Follow up on cases by ascertaining the satisfaction of beneficiaries in the receipt of services.

 

 

    •  Obtain, collect and organise in an appropriate manner the physical and digital means of verification of the project.

 

 

  •  According to need and capacity, support the Supply Chain staff in the identification and articulation with suppliers of the services/assistance required by the PoC.
  •  Maintain permanent communication and coordination with the case management officer, for the prompt, effective and suitable provision of the services/assistance required and in compliance with the technical, programmatic and support requirements existing in the organisation.
  •  Follow DRC work plans and guidelines.
  •  Report about emergencies such as evictions, displacement, natural disaster and related protection needs
  •  Participate in protection and multi-sectoral rapid needs assessments
  •  Support coordination of emergency response through sharing information about needs and ongoing interventions
  •  Provide psychological first aid, safe identification, and referrals to survivors of protection incidents in line with the survivor-centered approach, ensuring commitment to case management principles in particular the principle of confidentiality
  •  Conduct spot observation in areas where returnees and IDPs are living for inclusion in protection mainstreaming.
  •  Participate in protection and multi-sector awareness sessions
  •  Support in capacity building on protection to persons of concern
  •  Support emergency distributions ensuring protection mainstreaming
  •  Compile weekly and monthly reports
  •  Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Education, experience & technical competencies.

  •  University Degree in Social sciences or related qualification in Social work, protection or human rights.
  •  At least one-year previous NGO or humanitarian work experience.
  •  Good data collection/analysis and reporting skills
  •  Experience using online data collection software
  •  Familiar with computers, Outlook, Excel and MS Word, mobile surveys
  •  Experience in protection monitoring and reporting
  •  Honest, hardworking and independent.

Conditions:

Availability: November 2022

Duty station: Hargeisa

Reporting to: Protection Team Leader

Duration: 8 Months of contract with possibility of extension based on fund and performance.

Contract: This position is graded as band NM- I2 -S0 for qualified national staff and the terms of employment will be in accordance with DRC terms for national staff.
