What will you do?

  •  Visualize and analyse emergencies using innovative geospatial technologies and tools and provide useful insights on how natural and anthropic hazards might affect WFP operations.
  •  Promote the implementation of standards related to mapping and support field colleagues by developing procedures and workflows to improve the management of geospatial assets.
  •  Provide support with spatial analysis on natural hazards, environmental degradation and other datasets through the development and implementation of Earth Observation (EO) based solutions.
  •  Develop and maintain an integrated geospatial Somalia Seasonal Analysis and Reponses Plan (SOM SARP) for targeting WFP beneficiaries using geospatial techniques and geodatabase for effective and efficient decision-making and data retrieval.
  •  Lead and maintain the geospatial Implementation Plan (IP) database in accordance with WFP policies and procedures.
  •  Develop and maintain WFP Somalia spatial databases with up-to-date information and troubleshoot technical errors.
  •  Provide technical support to the development and design of GIS training modules and other learning material – for WFP colleagues, governments, and partners.
  •  Strengthen capacity for both early warning and disaster risk reduction.
  •  When required, deploy to the field to provide GIS/Mapping support to the Field Offices.
  •  Lead in analysis and production of early-warning and early-action reports, bulletins and infographics using remote sensing data and GIS methods and techniques.
  •  Lead the update of the Integrated Context Analysis (ICA).
  •  Support and improve remote sensing data, methods and techniques used in the Integrated Context Analysis (ICA).
  •  Leading the risk mapping exercise taking into consideration Somalia and regional prevailing treats.
  •  Contribute to the creation of geospatial products in response for natural hazards.
  •  Provide coaching and guidance to VAM staff on geospatial and mapping as required.

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

Education: Advanced University degree, preferably in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer science or other relevant fields or first university degree with additional years of related work experience.

Experience: Five years of relevant professional experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems including the use of GIS software ArcGIS 10.x, QuantumGIS and other OpenSource softwares in the humanitarian-development sector. Experience in an emergency context including Somalia is desirable.

Language: Proficiency in oral and written communication in English is a must..
